Tonight the Moon

source
Tonight the moon
lays against the sky
Perfect white crescent
on  black canvas

Tonight the stars
shimmer in place
Janurary snowflakes
on jet black hair

Tonight the barred owl
questions the stillness
Waits for a reply
as do I.

one has to love that moon and snow on jet black veil falling on the eyelids of the owl.

I love that middle stanza--but each image is so evocative LM that it's hard to pick between them--and I'm not going to, I'm going to savor the mood of the whole, and the pervasive longing of deep winter night.

Much tranquility in your lyrical description. I especially like the way you introduced the speaker in the final line.

…the moon looked like this last night - I kept looking at it! Oh, the imagery here is so nice - barred owls, etc. Nice.
